Don't Go Dark When Moving House
Don't Go Dark When Moving House
So many people get wrapped up in the stress and basic elements of moving house, that they often forget the logistics that go with it. And that’s not just finding and paying for the removal company and packing services. It’s about notifying a number of organisations, people and the council of your new address! Movers can get so wrapped up in trying to get out of their old premises and settled into their new homes, what with furniture removals and scouring companies for cheap removals that they overlook these important factors! One thing on your moving checklist should be to inform local authorities, both old and new of your house relocation. Get in touch with your new council and make sure to let your Electoral Register know of your new address.  Next up contact your water company, telecommunications and Internet service provider and your gas and electricity service Inland Revenue, TV Licencing Authority as well as your bank and inform them of your change of address. Don’t delay with this process. Get it done as soon as you have moved! Why not also contact your nearest post office and have all your mail redirected to your new house. If you’re moving a business, all the above are even more important and don’t forget to inform you clients and potential customers of your new location! Also if you have a company website make sure to update the contact details. Also change your email signatures, informing clients of your new address. If you keep correspondence via mail with friends or family make sure you also inform them of the new address. You don’t want those Christmas cards or New Year’s letters going AWOL in the post! Leaving a forwarding address is probably wise with the new tenants or homeowners of your old property particularly if you carry out online orders. Before you get down to house moving, write down a list of names of people and organisations you need to contact and inform of your new address, and that way nobody will be left out! If you’ve got children, make sure you notify their schools of your new address as you don’t want any correspondence with your children’s education system getting lost or not arriving!Inform your removal services of both your existing and new address and decide where you want your bill sent. At this point in time, you may be fretting over the time all of this will take! Well, relax, as you can notify each organisation and company by phone. You won’t have to go down to your local Council in person or even your bank as this can even be done online. If you do have a hectic work schedule there are some websites available where you can sign up and have all organisations notified at once of your new address. Save time by writing a standardised letter or email and sending it all the individual recipients. Remember the sooner you get this done, the sooner you can relax and enjoy your new home once the movers have been and gone!To ease your mind further, many removal companies can offer advice on this process. Remember that you’re not a removal company’s first client and their wealth of experience will lend to helpful advice. Many things seem daunting at first, but once you get stuck in, you’ll be amazed at how quickly and efficiently the notification process can take. It might prove a little more complicated when it comes to European removals, but with the proper organisation, no task is beyond reach!
